about
On the night of July 20, 2012, a tragic event unfolded at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." A 24-year-old man named James Eagan Holmes, clad in tactical gear, unleashed tear gas and opened fire on the audience using several firearms. This horrific incident resulted in the loss of twelve lives and injured 70 others, with 58 of those injuries resulting from gunfire.
This incident marked a somber record in Colorado's history, being the most lethal attack carried out by a single individual and ranking as the state's second most devastating mass shooting, following the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. At that time, it was the single shooting incident with the highest number of victims (82) in recent U.S. history.
